The Maliau Basin in the Malaysian state of Sabah is expected to become the country’s latest addition to the UNESCO World Heritage list. The New Straits Times reported that UNESCO has agreed “in principle” to the listing of the 588km² site, which is also known as Sabah’s ‘Lost World’ due to its vast biodiversity. Malaysia’s Prime Minister, Najib Razak, also gave his support to the listing, saying that it would lead to a “jump in interest from around the world”.
