Authorities in Jakarta have said that they plan to develop six underground stations as part of a planned Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) system by 2016. The Jakarta Post reported the city’s Governor, Fauzi Bowo, as saying this week that his administration had started acquiring land along the planned 15.5km MRT route. The six planned stations will be at the Al Azhar Mosque, Istora Senayan, Bendungan Hilir, Setiabudi, Dukuh Atas and the Hotel Indonesia traffic circle. A further seven above-ground stations will also be developed.
