Thailand lifts emergency rule
Published on Dec 22, 2010
Thailand has lifted the emergency rule in Bangkok and several other provinces due to the improving security situation in the country. The rule was imposed after the Red Shirt protests earlier this year, but the country’s government has been keen to return to normality in an effort to improve Thailand’s image. Despite the emergency rule, Bangkok has seen sporadic Red and Yellow Shirt protests in the months since the violence of April and May, however they have largely passed off peacefully.
