Jin Jiang takes luxury brand to new heights

China’s largest domestic hotel company, Shanghai Jin Jiang International Hotels Group, has unveiled a new luxury brand that it aims to position quite literally at the highest end of the market. Among several new openings being planned under its new J Hotels brand, Jin Jiang is planning to develop the world’s highest hotel in Shanghai.
Bloomberg reported yesterday that the 258-room Shanghai Tower J-Hotel will be located on floors 84-110 of the 121-storey Shanghai Tower. At 632 metres, the building in the city’s Pudong New Area will be the world’s second tallest building when it is completed in 2014. The hotel will rise above the existing Park Hyatt Shanghai and the soon-to-open Ritz-Carlton Hong Kong as the world’s highest hotel. The Armani Hotel, which forms part of the world’s tallest building, Dubai’s Burj Khalifa Tower, is located on the lower floors of the skyscraper.
The Shanghai Tower property will be one of up to 12 J Hotels that Jin Jiang plans to roll-out in major gateway cities across China. The first J Hotel, to be managed by the company’s American joint venture, Interstate China, is due to open in late 2014 or early 2015. Jin Jiang currently has a portfolio of more than 540 hotels either operating or under development in 137 cities across China.
