Fog causes Shanghai airport delays

Dense fog caused transport chaos in Shanghai on Sunday, grounding several flights and halting road and ferry routes. According to local media reports, visibility at Pudong International Airport until was reduced to just 50 metres, delaying around 15,000 passengers on more than 80 international and domestic flights. Airport authorities were reported saying that nine international flights were diverted to Hongqiao International Airport. Pudong services began to return to normal by mid-morning. Elsewhere in the city, the Shanghai Daily reported that at least nine major expressways were closed, while 10 of the city’s 18 Huangpu River ferry services were cancelled.
