Malaysia to open new rail link to Thai border

Malaysian has started developing the final stretch of a new MYR12.5 billion (US$4 billion) rail link between Ipoh and Padang Besar – on the country’s border with Thailand. According to a New Straits Times report, the double track project will include 3.3km twin tunnels - the longest twin railway tunnels in Southeast Asia. Running through Perak, Penang, Kedah and Perlis, the line is expected to be completed in 2013.
