Christchurch hit by another strong quake

Published on Oct 19, 2010

The city of Christchurch was rocked by a 5.0-magnitude earthquake this morning, cutting power in the city. The NZ Herald reported residents as saying that violent shaking lasted 15-20 seconds during the quake, which hit at approximately 11.30am local time 10km southwest of the city. Some structural damage was reported, but there are not thought to be any injuries. Flights into Christchurch airport were delayed as engineers checked the runway for cracks. Christchurch is still recovering from a major 7.0-magnitude quake that hit the city on 4 September.
