AirAsia to trial in-flight mobile services

AirAsia has teamed-up with Malaysian mobile services provider, Maxis Bhd, and OnAir to offer in-flight mobile phone connectivity, Bernama has reported. The three companies will invest US$1.8 million to set up the connectivity systems on six AirAsia aircraft by the end of the year. The low-cost carrier recently announced that it was concentrating on driving ancillary revenue as an alternative to implementing fuel surcharges. AirAsia Chairman, Aziz Bakar, was reported saying that the system would be expanded to its entire fl eet of 96 aircraft pending a successful trial period.
