Thailand approves high-speed rail plans

The Thai government has approved plans for the development of three highspeed train routes. According to the Bangkok Post, a joint investment with China will see high-speed rail lines connecting Bangkok with Nong Khai, on the border with Laos, Padang Besar, the gateway to Malaysia, and the eastern seaport of Rayong. The three routes, which total more than 1,700km, are expected to cost approximately THB330 billion (US$10.7 billion), and will be jointly funded between Thailand and China.
