“Miracle” landing for Russian passenger plane
Published on Sep 9, 2010
A Russian passenger plane has made a “miracle” landing at a small air strip in the far north of Siberia, Channel NewsAsia reported officials as saying. The Alrosa Mirny Air Enterprise-operated Tupolev 154, carrying 72 passengers and nine crew from Moscow, suffered a complete power failure mid-flight, and was forced to glide down to Earth at high-speed, with no navigation equipment or radio contact, before landing successfully on the disused runway. The Russian media has hailed the plane’s pilot for his “miraculous” and “heroic” efforts.
