Beijing’s famous Forbidden City is planning to open more areas to the public. According to local media report, authorities will open 70% of the once strictly off-limits imperial palace to tourists; up from just 30% currently. The Beijing Morning Post yesterday reported the Head of the Administration of Cultural Heritage, Shan Jixiang, as saying that the newly-opened areas could see visitor numbers rise by 30,000 per day, to around 130,000.
