Tracks laid for Beijing- Shanghai high-speed railway

The tracks have started tobe laid on the 223.9km Beijing section of the highspeed railway connecting the Chinese capital with Shanghai, Xinhua has reported. In total, the CNY220.9 billion (US$32 billion) project will eventually involve laying 1,318km of track, with work expected to be complete by the end of 2010. Services are expected to start in late 2011, cutting travel time between Beijing and Shanghai to just four hours.
