World cities establish heritage alliance

Seventeen historical cities across the world have announced a plan to form an alliance for the protection of their cultural heritages. According to a Xinhua report, the deal was struck at the 2010 World Expo in Shanghai, by mayors and representatives of the cities, which comprises eight Chinese municipalities - Beijing, Shanghai, Hangzhou, Xi’an, Luoyang, Yangzhou, Suzhou and Macau. The other partner cities are Bologna, Venice, Barcelona, Mexico City, Nairobi, Cairo, Liverpool, Konstanz and Pondicherry.
