Australia, NZ rank highly in Quality of Living report
Cities in Australia and New Zealand received the Asia Pacific region’s highest ratings in the 2010 Mercer Quality of Living survey. The report, which evaluates cities based on various factors such as recreation, public services and personal freedom, was largely dominated by European cities, but Auckland tied in fourth place overall in the global rankings, as well as being the highest-placed city in Asia Pacific. In the region rankings, Auckland was followed by Sydney, Wellington, Melbourne and Perth. Southeast Asian cities suffered due to perceived environmental, political and religious threats. In the Middle East Dubai topped the regional list, but that was only good enough for 75th place in the overall rankings. The global list was topped by Vienna, followed by the Swiss cities of Zurich and Geneva, with Auckland tied for fourth place with Vancouver.
