World Expo boosts Shanghai tourism 25%

The 2010 World Expo has provided a major boost to Shanghai’s tourism arrivals over the May Day holiday period, according to a Shanghai Daily report, citing local authorities. The city welcomed in excess of 4.2 million tourists between 30 April and 4 May - almost 25% more than in the same period last year. Shanghai’s tourism receipts totalled approximately CNY1.8 billion (US$263 million) during the same period, a year- on-year increase of 26%.
