Misery continues for European air travellers

The air traffic shutdown in Europe continued over the weekend, with millions of travellers left stranded as the cloud of volcanic ash led to the cancellation of thousands of flights. The BC reported that an estimated three-quarters of flights were cancelled on Saturday, while airspace in about 20 countries had been closed, with the situation expected to continue into Monday. Eurocontrol, the European air traffic control operator said that around 17,000 out of 22,000 fl ights were cancelled across Europe on Saturday.
