HNA Group continues to expand with second Guangxi-based carrier
Guilin Airlines, a new carrier in southern China, has been given the green light to launch its first flights in January 2016.
The Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) has now formally approved the start-up airline, which is a joint venture between the state-owned Guilin Tourism Development Corporation and HNA Group.
It will initially operate a fleet of Airbus A319 jets on domestic routes from Guilin's Liangjiang International Airport. The pilots and cabin crew will be supplied by Beijing Capital Airlines, another HNA subsidiary.
Guilin Airlines becomes the second new airline to have launched in the Guangxi region of China in recent months, following Nanning-based GX Airlines – another HNA-owned company. Home to the scenic Li River and dramatic limestone karst landscapes, Guangxi is a popular tourism destination among both domestic and international travelers.
The new airline continues HNA's expansion across China, where it has recently set up a series of regional carriers including Urumqi Airlines, Fuzhou Airlines and GX Airlines. The company also operates China's fourth largest carrier, Hainan Airlines.
