New display features movie set and 5D ride
Tourism New Zealand has brought a slice of Middle Earth Singapore's Changi Airport, with a new Hobbiton display designed to promote the recently-launched flights between the two countries.
The scene from the Hobbit movies has been flown up to Singapore and constructed at Changi by the same people who built The Shire set for the Peter Jackson movies.
Located at Terminal 3, the display also features a 5D simulator ride, plus an area showcasing tourism in New Zealand, including a place to try out the country's sports and local produce.
The display follows the recent launch of Air New Zealand and Singapore Airlines' joint services between Auckland, Christchurch and Singapore.
"We were very pleased to officially welcome our national carrier back to Singapore earlier this month and will be working closely to grow both demand and capacity for travel to New Zealand," said Tourism New Zealand's regional manager for South & Southeast Asia, Steven Dixon.
"New Zealand is the ultimate getaway for Singaporeans, who appreciate the huge amount of space, the fresh air, epic scenery and of course, being a nation of foodies, the very fresh locally-grown produce. It’s the ideal place to rejuvenate, to unwind and to go home with a whole album of experiences that seem out of this world."
Visitor numbers from Singapore to New Zealand reached 46,608 last year, up 8.2%. And the launch of the new air services is expected to allow arrivals to continue to grow in future.
"The new Auckland-Singapore service operated by Air New Zealand will foster stronger people flow between the two countries. Today, Singapore is a well-regarded leisure and business destination for New Zealanders. Last year, Singapore welcomed more than 118,000 New Zealand visitors. New Zealand, on the other hand, is also a very popular destination amongst Singapore travelers," said Lim Ching Kiat, senior vice president of market development of Changi Airport Group.
The 'Naturally New Zealand' event is will run from until April 5, 2015.
