US attraction operator pens major new agreement with China's Riverside Investment Group.

Six Flags Entertainment, the world's biggest theme park operator, has signed an agreement to open its first ever attractions in China.

The US company has formed a partnership with Chinese real estate Travel Daily Asiadeveloper, Riverside Investment Group, for the creation of "multiple" Six Flags-branded theme parks in China over the next decade.

Jim Reid-Anderson, Six Flags' chairman, president & CEO, said the partnership formed part of the company's long-term strategy to develop more attractions outside the US.

"Our international expansion strategy is focused on finding the right partners in the right markets, and Riverside Investment Group will be the perfect strategic partner for us in China," said Reid-Anderson. "We are honoured to be working with this world-class organization as we continue taking the Six Flags brand to growing markets outside North America."

Six Flags currently operates 18 theme parks across North America, including 16 in the US and one each in Mexico and Canada. Earlier this year it unveiled plans to launch its first theme park in the Middle East, with a new Dubai theme park expected to open in 2017.

The Texas-based company has a reputation for creating extreme rides, including the world's tallest rollercoaster (Kingda Ka at Six Flags Great Adventure in New Jersey), the world's tallest, fastest and steepest wooden rollercoaster (Goliath at Six Flags Great America in Chicago) and the world's tallest vertical loop rollercoaster (Full Throttle at Six Flags Magic Mountain in California).

"We are honoured to enter this strategic relationship with Six Flags and expand the entertainment offerings in China," said chairman Li of Riverside Investment Group. "We are confident this world-class brand and unique form of entertainment will attract millions of guests to our parks."

Precise details of Six Flags Chinese expansion, in terms of the number and location of theme parks, have not yet been revealed.
