New ‘flying suit’ created for divers
Published on Mar 11, 2013
A new wetsuit has been created that designers claim allows divers to ‘fly’ underwater. Created by Frenchman Guillaume Binard, the ‘Oceanwings’ suit resembles a regular wetsuit but has webbed flaps of material between the legs and arms, similar to a flying fox. The concept is based on the winged suits used by extreme skydivers, such as the ‘Jetman’ Yves Rossy.
The man who tested the suit, free-diver Pierre Frolla, said the suit provided a serene underwater experience, allowing the wearer to glide through the water like a manta ray. Unfortunately few other people will have the chance to experience this sensation - the Oceanwings suit will not be commercially produced.
