Tourism boost for Buddha birthplace

The town of Lumbini in Nepal, which is believed to be the birthplace of the Lord Buddha, has seen a signifi cant jump in tourist numbers this year. The town, which lies close to the border with India, attracted 523,900 visitors in the fi rst nine months of 2012 - 50% more than the same period
last year. Of this total, 184,100 were foreign tourists with 339,900 were domestic pilgrims.
