Sleeping passenger x-rayed on baggage belt

Published on Sep 10, 2012

Airport security guards in Italy had a shock recently, when they spotted the x-ray of a passenger sleeping on a moving baggage belt. According to Italy’s La Repubblica newspaper, the Norwegian tourist had climbed over a checkin desk and fell asleep on the conveyer belt that takes luggage to be loaded on to planes. Curled up in a foetal position, the man travelled for 50 metres on the belt before being snapped by the x-ray machine. An airport offi cial denied that the incident represented a security breach. “There is a security system – a sort of roll-up blind,” the offi cial said. “The Norwegian could have carried on going round the main belt but he could never have ended up in sensitive areas of the airport.”
