China, Vietnam boost land border crossings
Published on Aug 27, 2012
Vietnam and China have signed a new agreement to allow buses to travel deeper into each other's territory. Earlier this month, a new overland route was opened between Haiphong and Kunming, and now buses will be able to travel on a 1,300km route linking Hanoi and Shenzhen. Thanh Nien News reported that each country is now allowed to issue up to 500 permits for trucks and buses on the route, plus another 1,500 for shorter trips into border provinces. Previously transport operators from each country were only allowed to travel 20km inside the other’s territory.
