Queensland World Heritage site opens tourist centre
08/08/2012

Mossman Gorge, the UNESCO World Heritage Site in northern Queensland, now has a new tourism centre. The AU$20 million (US$21m) Mossman Gorge Centre includes a fleet of 'eco shuttles' to transport visitors into the gorge, with guides to offer information about the local rainforest. There are also walking trails, as well as a café, indigenous art gallery and gift shop. Developed by the Indigenous Land Corporation, the centre will provide employment opportunities to local indigenous communities. Part of the Daintree National Park, Mossman Gorge is home to more than 430 bird species.
