Buddha’s enlightenment tree “still alive”

Published on Jul 30, 2012

The tree under which the Lord Buddha is believed to have attained enlightenment is still alive, Xinhua reported scientists in India as saying. The 2,500-year-old Bodhi tree is located in Bodh Gaya, in the northeastern Indian state of Bihar, approximately 100km from state capital Patna. Having examined the ancient tree, scientists from the Forest Research Institute in the northern state of Uttarakhand were reported saying it is still “fully healthy”, although they decided to remove cement slabs around its base to “tree to receive water and nutrition in its roots”.
