The construction of Ho Chi Minh City's first metro line will get underway next month, city authorities have said. The first 19km-long line stretching from Ben Thanh Market in the city's District One, will connect with the Suoi Tien Amusement Park in District Nine, with 2.2km running underground and the remaining 17.5km overland, including 11 elevated stations. Thanh Nien News cited the metropolitan government as saying recently that work will start on 28 August, with completion expected in 2017. In total, authorities are planning to develop six metro lines in HCMC at a cost of approximately US$2.25 billion.
