Four-year-old bids for US$25,000 train

Published on Jul 9, 2012

A four-year-old boy has placed a bid of nearly US$25,000 for a train. According to Orange News, transport authorities in the New Zealand capital Wellington were delighted when they received a bid of NZ$29,990 for the old train. But it turned out the bid on the ‘Trade Me’ auction site was from an enthusiastic child. The boy’s mother, no doubt concerned about having to honor her child’s bid, issued an apology. “I’m really sorry,” she wrote in an email. “My four-year-old was playing and placed a bid, I don’t actually want to buy the train; can my bid please be removed?” Fortunately Trade Me was understanding and allowed the bid to be removed. The English Electric train, which had operated in the Wellington area since the late 1940s, was taken out of service last week and put up for sale.
