China quake cuts off major highway

An earthquake in northwest China’s Xinjiang region has damaged several major highways, leaving travellers stranded. Xinhua reported that the 6.6-magnitude quake, which struck early Saturday morning, triggered landslides and cave-ins on national and regional highways. A landslide on National Highway 217, Xinjiang’s main north south corridor, has trapped 120 people. The quake is also reported to have toppled 104 houses and injured 34 people.
