New highway to link Halong Bay with China

Published on Jun 7, 2012

A new highway is being planned to connect Halong Bay with the Chinese border. The six-lane Halong-Mong Cai Expressway will stretch 151.5km from the popular Vietnamese tourist area to the Bac Luan II Bridge, which connects Vietnam with China's Guangxi province. From Halong, the road will connect to the Hanoi-Haiphong Expressway. Construction is expected to take three years, with a total investment of around US$1.5 billion. The new highway is likely to provide a boost to Vietnam's tourism industry. China is already the country's largest visitor source market, accounting for almost a quarter of all visitors to the country.
