Snow causes Christchurch airport chaos

Heavy snowfall led to the severe disruption at Christchurch airport yesterday. Air New Zealand canceled all it flights to and from Christchurch on Wednesday afternoon as airport authorities struggled to clear snow from runways. Departing Jetstar and Virgin Australia services to Australia also faced major delays. "Snow continues to fall. Runways continue to be cleared. Major disruptions with airlines" the airport tweeted yesterday, in one of several updates. Stranded passengers were provided with food and blankets. Air New Zealand said it planned to operate a regular flight schedule today, subject to weather conditions improving.
