Great Wall section destroyed to make way for factory

A section of the Great Wall of China has been knocked down to make way for a new factory. China’s Xinhua news agency reported that the destruction of part of the wall in Shaanxi province has provoked an angry response from China's online community. Pictures posted online showed a bulldozer standing next to a watch tower, ready to knock down the structure. The factory's developers argued however, that the wall was already in a state of disrepair. The Great Wall of China has been a UNESCO World Heritage site since 1987.
