Australian plans ‘Titanic II’

Published on May 2, 2012

An Australian mining magnate has announced plans to build a modern version of Titanic, local media reported on Monday. The AAP reported Clive Palmer as saying that he had signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with state-owned Chinese company CSC Jinling Shipyard to build Titanic II, which is expected to take to the seas in late 2016, retracing the fi rst and only voyage of its ill-fated predecessor from the UK to North America. Palmer has even named his new shipping company ‘Blue Star Line’, after the original ‘White Star Line’ which operated Titanic. The original Titanic sank in the North Atlantic on 15 April 1912 after hitting an iceberg.
