337 climbers to take on Everest

A total of 337 climbers from across the world have received permission to climb Mount Everest this spring, authorities in Nepal have revealed. According to data from the country’s Ministry of Tourism & Civil Aviation, the number of climbers attempting to scale the world’s highest mountain has risen 28% compared to last year’s 263. The number of expeditions has risen from 26 to 32. More than 3,100 people have climbed the 8,848-metre-high peak since it was fi rst conquered by Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay in 1953, while 219 people have died during the attempt.
