Local zoo inspires Hollywood movie

Published on Mar 19, 2012

A family run zoo in the UK has become the unlikely inspiration for a Hollywood movie. Orange News reported that A-listers Matt Damon and Scarlett Johansson will star in the new film, which tells the story of Ben Mee and his family, who bought a run-down zoo despite having no experience of animals. The Mee family purchased the Dartmoor Zoological Park for GBP1.1 million (US$1.7 million) in August 2006, and are now the owners of five Siberian tigers, three lions, nine wolves, three bears, two pumas, a lynx, four otters, two flamingos and a llama, as well as monkeys, owls, emus, deer and reptiles. Mr Mee wrote a book about the project which turned into a bestseller in the US. The film rights to the book were then purchased by 20th Century Fox.
