China to develop quake warnings for high-speed trains
Published on Mar 16, 2012
China's Ministry of Railways and the China Earthquake Administration have signed an agreement to develop an earthquake warning system for the country's high-speed trains. The China Daily reported a joint statement as saying that the system will provide an early warning system for trains, allowing them to reduce speed and stop before an earthquake hits. The effectiveness of such systems was demonstrated in Japan last year, when the country's bullet trains were automatically halted before the Tohoku earthquake struck.
