China to lay 3,500 km of high-speed rail lines in 2012

China will construct 6,366 km of new railways in 2012, including 3,500 km of high-speed lines. The state-run People’s Daily reported that the new high-speed lines will include a section of track linking Beijing with the southern gateway with of Shenzhen, cutting traveling time between the two metros from 23 hours to just eight. By the end of 2012, the China’s high-speed rail network will exceed 10,000km.
