China to “demolish and restore” Chiang Kai-shek’s house
Published on Feb 17, 2012
The former residence of Chiang Kai-shek, the leader of China’s nationalist party, the Kuomintang government, is to be demolished and rebuilt, Xinhua has reported. Originally built in 1935, the Chongqing property was listed as a heritage site in 2009, but authorities have since decreed that the building is beyond repair. The city's heritage body said however, that it will be dismantled brick-by-brick, retaining original materials with a view to rebuilding the compound.
