Bomb scare at Amsterdam airport
Published on Feb 14, 2012
Amsterdam’s Schiphol airport was evacuated yesterday following a bomb scare. The hub’s two main international terminals were both closed at around 11.30am local time on Monday when a man claiming to have a bomb locked himself in an airport toilet. Police were called in and the airport later confirmed in a statement on its website that a man had been arrested, although it is not clear if he was in possession of any explosives. The incident led to the delay and cancelation of multiple fights. Amsterdam-based KLM warned yesterday that travellers arriving at Schiphol would not be able to transfer to a European flight at until at least midnight. Schiphol is one the world’s busiest airports, handling 49.8 million passengers in 2011.
