More Europeans plan Chinese New Year trips

More European tourists are planning to visit China over Lunar New Year, a study has found. Flight comparison site Skyscanner revealed a huge rise in flight searches for Chinese cities for the forthcoming festive period. The Netherlands saw the largest increase in interest with a 91% rise in flight searches to China, followed by Italy (+83%), Germany (+74%), and France and the UK (both +40%).
Yi Bao, Skyscanner’s Market Development Manager for China, said the demand was likely to be both from European tourists and expatriate Chinese planning to return home for New Year.
“An estimated three million people with Chinese heritage live in Europe and many of them travel to China during the Chinese New Year period to visit friends and family,” said Yi. “In addition to this, Chinese New Year is an appealing time for many European tourists as it’s a period when China is at its most vibrant, with huge celebrations taking place across the country.”
