Heavy snow disrupts travel in Austria
Published on Jan 12, 2012
Heavy snows in Austria disrupted rail services last week. A major east-west railway route was shut down due to extreme winter weather conditions in Tyrol, a popular Alpine skiing region. The operator closed the line between Oetztal and Bludenz, which affected services connecting Vienna and Innsbruck to Western Switzerland. The AP reported that two other rail lines connecting Tyrol province with southern Germany were also shut down. Road closures were common across the region and warnings were issued over increased risks of avalanches.
