Capsule hotels coming to Hong Kong

Published on Jan 10, 2012

Japan’s famous capsule hotel concept could be coming to Hong Kong. The capsule has not landed yet, but Eric Wong, Managing Director of Galaxy Stars, is looking to establish a capsule market in the near future. Wong currently has a showroom in the city, exhibiting units measuring 90cm by 180cm, and hopes to attract interest from hoteliers. Average hotel room rates in the SAR are among the highest in the world, sitting around to US$250 per night, and already tourists are showing interest in a cost saving capsule. Wong told CNNGo; "Since the Facebook page has gone up, I’ve already been contacted by tourists interested in a place to stay on vacation." Wong's long-term goal is to bring the capsule hotel to mainland China, locating them at the high-speed rail stations and eventually moving to Southeast Asia.
