Man crosses US border using iPad

Published on Jan 9, 2012

A Canadian man managed to legally cross the border into the US recently using a scanned copy of his passport which was stored on his iPad. Martin Reisch, from Montreal, was on his way to Vermont to deliver Christmas presents having left his passport at home. On arriving at the border, Reisch presented border control officials with the iPad and a copy of his driver’s license – a long shot to say the least. After studying the documents, the 33 year-old was allowed to proceed to Vermont and return back across the border that same day. Speaking to CNN, Reisch said he would not forget his passport in future but hopes that digital devices will replace printed passports in the near future. "I see the future as 100% being able to cross with your identity on a digital device - it's just a matter of time," he said.
