A major travel industry partnership is opening huge hotel discounts to Asia-bound travelers.
Budget carrier AirAsia is offering hotel discounts of up to 80 percent in 10 cities in Asia from March 29 until March 31 at www.AirAsiaGo.com.
Expedia is rolling out a two-week sale of up to 60 percent on Southeast Asian destinations at newly minted websites targeting the Malaysian and Thai markets.
These offers coincide with the announcement of a new joint venture company formed by AirAsia and Expedia, the world’s biggest online travel company, to sell plane tickets, vacation packages and hotel bookings in Asia.
The new company will control exclusive online distribution rights for AirAsia flights and packages in the region.
This means that AirAsia.com, AirAsiaGo.com and Expedia will be the only websites on which to book AirAsia flights online.
Websites that will be run by the new company include www.airasiago.com and www.gorooms.com, as well as Expedia's existing websites in Japan, India and Singapore.
The Wall Street Journal reported that Expedia hopes to expand its business in Asia with the help of its partnership with AirAsia. Expedia predicts that the travel market in the region will grow between 30 to 40 percent in each of the coming years.
