Surfer hurt in Bali shark attack

Published on Dec 6, 2011

A shark has been blamed for injuries suffered by Australian tourist off a beach in West Bali. Eighteen year-old Marc Andrews suffered injuries to his hand near Balian Beach, and had to undergo minor surgery. Reports are confused however, with local surfers suggesting the injury was likely caused by a stone shark, although it has been reported that the injury could have been caused by abrasions from crashing into a coral reef rather than an actual shark bite. Andrews told the Daily Telegraph that he was “[too] dizzy to remember about the whole thing”, but said that a shark had been involved. Shark attacks off the coast of Bali are extremely rare.
