Aviation safety authorities are investigating an incident in which an iPhone self-combusted on a Sydney-bound flight last week. Air operator Regional Express (Rex) told AFP that a passenger's mobile "started emitting a signifi cant amount of dense smoke, accompanied by a red glow" after the plane touched down from the city of Lismore on Friday. The scorched device is now in the hands of the Australian Transport and Safety Bureau (ATSB), which is conducting a technical examination. The bureau will be speaking to parties involved, including the manufacturer, as it evaluates the cause and potential threat to aviation safety.
