The longest river tunnel in Southeast Asia has opened to traffic in Ho Chi Minh City. The 1.49km Thu Thiem tunnel allows traffic to pass under the Saigon River, alleviating congestion on the city’s Saigon Bridge. Local language news service, Tuoi Tre reported that the tunnel also completes HCMC’s major East-West Boulevard that runs 21.9km through the city, and will cut traveling times between HCMC and destinations in the Mekong Delta.
