Social media sites show support for Qantas

Social media channels were awash with opinions about the Qantas grounding over the weekend, and there appeared to be little support for the unions. Many people congratulated the airline and its CEO, Alan Joyce for their apparent “victory” against the unions. “Good for you!! well done,” was how Sarah George put it on Facebook; a sentiment echoed in true Aussie style by Michael Walker, was wrote; “Qantas u little rippa what a legend!” “Congratulations dear QF you have won the war,” claimed Patricia J Fraser. There was considerable frustration among passengers however, who complained of the lack of information being offered by the airline. While Qantas posted the number for its reservations hotline on Facebook and Twitter, customers were angry about call waiting times. Rich Rose wrote on the Qantas Facebook wall; “Been queuing for 7hrs 23mins. I’m a gold frequent flyer… Great way to look after your ‘valued’ customers.” “I waited 5 hours 20 minutes then the call cut off and I found a fl ight on Virgin,” said Stephanie Barrett. “On hold for 7 [expletive] hours and then they hung up,” fumed Brett Writer. Opinions of Joyce himself varied. “Shame shame shame Joyce,” was the view of Tracey Newman, while Global Navigator called on Qantas to “bring in an Aussie” to replace Joyce, who is Irish. Another, calling himself Ned Kelly, called for Alan Joyce to “take a bow”.
