An environmental group is asking the Nepalese government to install portable toilets on Mount Everest. Eco Himal claims that thousands of trekkers who attempt to scale the world’s highest peak get caught short, and that any human waste can take longer to decompose due to the freezing temperatures. “Human waste is a problem. I am merely suggesting that if we have public toilets they can be used,” Channel NewsAsia reported the group’s director, Phinjo Sherpa, as saying. “If there could be two or three toilets that would be good,” he added. Sherpa said that the toilet issue would be discussed as part of a wider waste management plan being prepared by the Nepalese government.
