Shanghai subway trains collide

Published on Sep 28, 2011

Two subway trains crashed in Shanghai yesterday, injuring 271 passengers. The accident occurred between Laoximen Station and Yuyuan Garden Station, when one train crashed into the rear of another, which had been stationary for 40 minutes, according to local media reports. Passengers were evacuated down the underground tunnels. The Shanghai Daily reported that prior to the accident, Line 10 trains had been ordered to run at low speeds due to a signal failure. Services on the line were brought to a halt for approximately four hours following the crash.
