TCEB steps up Thailand's F1 bid

Thailand is stepping up its bid to host a Formula One race to keep pace with Malaysia and Singapore. The bid is being led by the Thailand Convention & Exhibition Bureau (TCEB) which is responding to calls from the private sector for more international events to raise the country’s profile among international tourists and across the global MICE industry. As the TCEB prepares an estimation on how much revenue the event could generate, company President Akapol Sorasuchart drew comparisons with Singapore which sold 120,000 race tickets last year. He told the Bangkok Post that the event boosted Singapore arrivals to one million in the periods immediately before, during and after the race, with hotels almost running at capacity and room rates jumping significantly.
